- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika (optional, for added flavor)
- Fresh herbs (like thyme or rosemary, for garnish)
- Lemon wedges (for serving)
Instructions
- Choose Your Ham Steaks: Select two thick-cut ham steaks, about 1 inch thick.
- Pat Dry: Use paper towels to pat the ham steaks dry.
- Season the Steaks: In a small bowl, mix black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and smoked paprika. Rub this seasoning mix on both sides of the ham steaks. Optionally, sprinkle brown sugar on one side of each steak.
- Heat the Pan: In a large skillet, heat olive oil or butter over medium-high heat for 2-3 minutes until shimmering.
- Sear the Ham Steaks: Place the ham steaks in the hot skillet and cook the first side for 4-5 minutes without moving them.
- Flip and Cook: Flip the ham steaks and cook the second side for another 4-5 minutes until the internal temperature reaches 145°F (63°C).
- Add Flavor: Optionally, add a tablespoon of butter during the last minute of cooking and spoon it over the steaks.
- Remove from Heat: Transfer the ham steaks to a plate and cover loosely with aluminum foil. Let them rest for about 5 minutes.
- Plate the Ham Steaks: Place the ham steaks on serving plates and garnish with fresh herbs.
- Serve with Lemon: Serve with lemon wedges on the side for a zesty flavor boost.
