  • Total Time: 75 minutes
  • Yield: 1 loaf 1x

Description

Moist Apple Fritter Bread with fresh apples, warm spices, and a crunchy cinnamon-sugar topping. Optional glaze for extra sweetness.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 3 cups peeled, cored, and diced apples (about 3 large apples, such as Honeycrisp or Granny Smith)
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 23 tablespoons milk or apple cider
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prep: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×5 inch loaf pan.
  2. Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt.
  3. Sugars and Oil: In a separate large bowl, whisk together granulated sugar, brown sugar, and vegetable oil until well combined.
  4. Eggs and Vanilla: Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract.
  5. Combine Wet and Dry: Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, alternating with buttermilk. Begin and end with dry ingredients. Mix until just combined (a few streaks of flour are okay).
  6. Fold in Apples and Nuts: Gently fold in diced apples and chopped nuts (if using).
  7. Cinnamon Sugar Topping: In a small bowl, combine 1/4 cup sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon.
  8. Pour and Sprinkle: Pour batter into prepared loaf pan and spread evenly. Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar topping.
  9. Bake: Bake for 55-70 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean or with just a few moist crumbs attached.
  10. Cool: Let cool in the pan for 10-15 minutes before inverting onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  11. Glaze (Optional): Whisk together powdered sugar, milk/apple cider, and vanilla extract until smooth. Add more liquid as needed to reach desired consistency.
  12. Drizzle: Once bread is completely cooled, drizzle glaze evenly over the top. Let glaze set before slicing and serving.
