- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar

- 3 cups peeled, cored, and diced apples (about 3 large apples, such as Honeycrisp or Granny Smith)
- 1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2–3 tablespoons milk or apple cider
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat and Prep: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×5 inch loaf pan.
- Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt.
- Sugars and Oil: In a separate large bowl, whisk together granulated sugar, brown sugar, and vegetable oil until well combined.
- Eggs and Vanilla: Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract.
- Combine Wet and Dry: Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, alternating with buttermilk. Begin and end with dry ingredients. Mix until just combined (a few streaks of flour are okay).
- Fold in Apples and Nuts: Gently fold in diced apples and chopped nuts (if using).
- Cinnamon Sugar Topping: In a small bowl, combine 1/4 cup sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon.
- Pour and Sprinkle: Pour batter into prepared loaf pan and spread evenly. Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar topping.
- Bake: Bake for 55-70 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean or with just a few moist crumbs attached.
- Cool: Let cool in the pan for 10-15 minutes before inverting onto a wire rack to cool completely.
- Glaze (Optional): Whisk together powdered sugar, milk/apple cider, and vanilla extract until smooth. Add more liquid as needed to reach desired consistency.
- Drizzle: Once bread is completely cooled, drizzle glaze evenly over the top. Let glaze set before slicing and serving.
