  • Author: Dottie
  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 12 churros 1x

Description

Enjoy these homemade baked churros that are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, coated in a sweet cinnamon-sugar mixture. Perfectly paired with warm chocolate sauce, they make a delightful treat for any occasion!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for coating)
  • Chocolate sauce (for dipping)
  • Optional: whipped cream or ice cream (for serving)

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine water, butter, sugar, and salt. Heat over medium until boiling, stirring occasionally.
  2. Remove from heat and add flour, stirring vigorously until a ball forms (1-2 minutes).
  3. Let the dough cool for 5 minutes to prevent cooking the eggs.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition until smooth. Stir in vanilla extract.
  5. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  6. Transfer dough to a piping bag fitted with a large star tip. Pipe dough into 4-6 inch strips on the baking sheet, leaving space between each.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and firm. Keep an eye on them to avoid over-baking.
  8. While baking, mix 1/4 cup sugar with cinnamon in a small bowl.
  9. Let churros cool for 5 minutes after baking, then roll in cinnamon-sugar mixture until fully coated.
  10. Serve warm with chocolate sauce for dipping, and optionally with whipped cream or ice cream.

Notes

  • Accurate measurements are key for the best results.
  • Experiment with flavors by adding nutmeg or almond extract.
  • For a fun twist, fill churros with chocolate or caramel sauce after cooling.
