Description

Enjoy tender, flavorful Braised Beef Brisket Tacos made with slow-cooked brisket in a savory sauce, served in warm tortillas and topped with fresh ingredients. Perfect for gatherings or a delicious family meal!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 34 pounds beef brisket
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup diced tomatoes (canned or fresh)
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 810 corn or flour tortillas
  • Fresh cilantro, chopped (for garnish)
  • 1 lime, cut into wedges (for serving)
  • Optional toppings: diced onions, sliced radishes, avocado, or sour cream

Instructions

  1. Pat the brisket dry with paper towels to ensure a good sear.
  2. Season the brisket generously with salt and pepper on both sides.
  3. In a large Dutch oven or heavy pot, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Once shimmering, add the brisket.
  4. Sear the brisket for about 4-5 minutes on each side until browned. Remove and set aside.
  5. In the same pot, add the diced onion and sauté for about 5 minutes until translucent, scraping up browned bits.
  6. Add the minced garlic and sauté for an additional minute until fragrant.
  7. Stir in the diced tomatoes, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, chili powder, cumin, and smoked paprika. Cook for 2-3 minutes.
  8. Pour in the beef broth, stirring to combine, and bring to a gentle simmer.
  9. Return the seared brisket to the pot, ensuring it’s submerged in the liquid.
  10. Cover the pot and reduce heat to low. Braise for 3-4 hours, or until fork-tender. Alternatively, braise in the oven at 300°F (150°C).
  11. Check occasionally, adding more broth or water if the liquid level gets low.
  12. Carefully remove the brisket from the pot and let it rest for 10-15 minutes on a cutting board.
  13. Shred the brisket into bite-sized pieces using two forks.
  14. Return the shredded brisket to the pot with the braising liquid and simmer for an additional 10 minutes.
  15. If using corn tortillas, warm them on a dry skillet over medium heat for about 30 seconds on each side.

Notes

  • Feel free to customize your tacos with your favorite toppings such as diced onions, sliced radishes, avocado, or sour cream.
  • For a spicier kick, consider adding jalapeños or hot sauce to the braising liquid.
