Buffalo Chicken Dip: The Ultimate Guide to a Perfect Party Appetizer

  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 8-10 servings 1x

Description

Creamy, spicy, and cheesy Buffalo Chicken Dip! This easy appetizer is perfect for parties, game day, or any gathering. Serve with tortilla chips, celery, or baguette slices.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 (10 ounce) cans chunk chicken, drained
  • 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup Frank’s RedHot Buffalo Wing Sauce (or your favorite brand)
  • 1/2 cup ranch dressing
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup crumbled blue cheese (optional, but highly recommended!)
  • Green onions, sliced (for garnish)
  • Tortilla chips, celery sticks, or baguette slices, for serving

Instructions

  1. Drain the Chicken: Open those cans of chicken and drain them really well. Press the chicken with a spoon to get out as much excess liquid as possible.
  2. Combine the Ingredients: In a medium-sized bowl, combine the drained chicken, softened cream cheese, Buffalo wing sauce, ranch dressing, cheddar cheese, and blue cheese (if using).
  3. Mix it Up: Mix everything together until it’s well combined and creamy. Make sure there are no lumps of cream cheese lurking in there. Use a hand mixer or a sturdy spoon.
  4. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Transfer to Baking Dish: Pour the dip mixture into a baking dish. An 8×8 inch dish works perfectly. You can also use a pie plate.
  6. Bake: Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the dip is bubbly and heated through. The top should be slightly golden brown. Keep an eye on it, as baking times can vary depending on your oven.
  7. Broil (Optional): For an extra golden and bubbly top, you can broil the dip for the last 1-2 minutes. But watch it closely, because it can burn quickly!
  8. Transfer to Slow Cooker: Pour the dip mixture into your slow cooker.
  9. Cook: Cook on low for 1-2 hours, or until the dip is heated through and bubbly. Stir occasionally to prevent burning.
  10. Keep Warm: Once the dip is heated through, you can switch the slow cooker to the “warm” setting to keep it at the perfect serving temperature.
  11. Garnish: Sprinkle the top of the dip with sliced green onions. You can also add a sprinkle of extra cheddar cheese or blue cheese crumbles, if desired.
  12. Serve: Serve immediately with tortilla chips, celery sticks, baguette slices, or any other dippers you like.

Notes

  • Make sure your cream cheese is softened for a smooth dip.
  • Adjust the spice level by adding more or less Buffalo wing sauce.
  • Experiment with different cheeses like Monterey Jack or pepper jack.
  • Use shredded rotisserie chicken instead of canned chicken, if preferred.
  • Add chopped celery or carrots for extra crunch.
  • For a healthier version, substitute some cream cheese with Greek yogurt.
  • Prepare the dip ahead of time and store it in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
