Description
Creamy, spicy, and cheesy Buffalo Chicken Dip! This easy appetizer is perfect for parties, game day, or any gathering. Serve with tortilla chips, celery, or baguette slices.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 (10 ounce) cans chunk chicken, drained
- 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup Frank’s RedHot Buffalo Wing Sauce (or your favorite brand)
- 1/2 cup ranch dressing
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/4 cup crumbled blue cheese (optional, but highly recommended!)
- Green onions, sliced (for garnish)
- Tortilla chips, celery sticks, or baguette slices, for serving
Instructions
- Drain the Chicken: Open those cans of chicken and drain them really well. Press the chicken with a spoon to get out as much excess liquid as possible.
- Combine the Ingredients: In a medium-sized bowl, combine the drained chicken, softened cream cheese, Buffalo wing sauce, ranch dressing, cheddar cheese, and blue cheese (if using).
- Mix it Up: Mix everything together until it’s well combined and creamy. Make sure there are no lumps of cream cheese lurking in there. Use a hand mixer or a sturdy spoon.
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Transfer to Baking Dish: Pour the dip mixture into a baking dish. An 8×8 inch dish works perfectly. You can also use a pie plate.
- Bake: Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the dip is bubbly and heated through. The top should be slightly golden brown. Keep an eye on it, as baking times can vary depending on your oven.
- Broil (Optional): For an extra golden and bubbly top, you can broil the dip for the last 1-2 minutes. But watch it closely, because it can burn quickly!
- Transfer to Slow Cooker: Pour the dip mixture into your slow cooker.
- Cook: Cook on low for 1-2 hours, or until the dip is heated through and bubbly. Stir occasionally to prevent burning.
- Keep Warm: Once the dip is heated through, you can switch the slow cooker to the “warm” setting to keep it at the perfect serving temperature.
- Garnish: Sprinkle the top of the dip with sliced green onions. You can also add a sprinkle of extra cheddar cheese or blue cheese crumbles, if desired.
- Serve: Serve immediately with tortilla chips, celery sticks, baguette slices, or any other dippers you like.
Notes
- Make sure your cream cheese is softened for a smooth dip.
- Adjust the spice level by adding more or less Buffalo wing sauce.
- Experiment with different cheeses like Monterey Jack or pepper jack.
- Use shredded rotisserie chicken instead of canned chicken, if preferred.
- Add chopped celery or carrots for extra crunch.
- For a healthier version, substitute some cream cheese with Greek yogurt.
- Prepare the dip ahead of time and store it in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours.
