Creamy Hummus: The Ultimate Recipe for a Delicious Dip

  • Author: Dottie
  • Total Time: 10 minutes
  • Yield: 2 cups 1x

Description

This homemade hummus is creamy and flavorful, made with chickpeas, tahini, and fresh lemon juice. It’s a healthy dip or spread, perfect for any meal or snack. Enjoy it with pita bread or vegetable sticks!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can (15 oz) of chickpeas, drained and rinsed
  • 1/4 cup of tahini
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice
  • 12 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon of ground cumin
  • Salt, to taste
  • Water, as needed for consistency
  • Paprika, for garnish (optional)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Gather all your ingredients on the countertop for a smoother process.
  2. Open the can of chickpeas and rinse them under cold water in a colander to remove excess sodium and canning liquid.
  3. Measure out the tahini, stirring it well in the jar before measuring.
  4. Squeeze fresh lemon juice into a measuring cup.
  5. Mince the garlic cloves, adding an extra clove if desired for more flavor.
  6. In a food processor, combine the drained chickpeas, tahini, olive oil, lemon juice, minced garlic, ground cumin, and a pinch of salt.
  7. Secure the lid and pulse the mixture a few times to break down the chickpeas.
  8. Scrape down the sides of the bowl with a spatula to ensure even mixing.
  9. Blend the mixture for about 1-2 minutes until smooth and creamy. If too thick, add water, one tablespoon at a time, while blending.
  10. Taste the hummus and adjust seasoning with more salt, lemon juice, or garlic as needed, blending again to incorporate.
  11. If the hummus is not creamy enough, continue adding water until the desired consistency is reached.
  12. Blend for an additional 30 seconds to ensure everything is well combined and silky smooth.
  13. Transfer the hummus to a serving bowl, creating a swirl in the center with the back of a spoon.
  14. Drizzle olive oil over the top and sprinkle with paprika and fresh parsley for garnish.
  15. Serve with warm pita bread, crunchy vegetable sticks, or pita chips.
  16. Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 4-5 days. Stir before serving and add a splash of water or olive oil if needed.

Notes

  • For variations, consider adding roasted red peppers, sun-dried tomatoes, or spicy harissa for a different flavor profile.
  • Fresh lemon juice is recommended for the best flavor.
