Ingredients
Scale
- 1 can (15 oz) of chickpeas, drained and rinsed
- 1/4 cup of tahini
- 2 tablespoons of olive oil
- 2 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice
- 1–2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1/2 teaspoon of ground cumin
- Salt, to taste
- Water, as needed for consistency
- Paprika, for garnish (optional)
- Fresh parsley, chopped (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Gather all your ingredients on the countertop for a smoother process.
- Open the can of chickpeas and rinse them under cold water in a colander to remove excess sodium and canning liquid.
- Measure out the tahini, stirring it well in the jar before measuring.
- Squeeze fresh lemon juice into a measuring cup.
- Mince the garlic cloves, adding an extra clove if desired for more flavor.
- In a food processor, combine the drained chickpeas, tahini, olive oil, lemon juice, minced garlic, ground cumin, and a pinch of salt.
- Secure the lid and pulse the mixture a few times to break down the chickpeas.
- Scrape down the sides of the bowl with a spatula to ensure even mixing.
- Blend the mixture for about 1-2 minutes until smooth and creamy. If too thick, add water, one tablespoon at a time, while blending.
- Taste the hummus and adjust seasoning with more salt, lemon juice, or garlic as needed, blending again to incorporate.
- If the hummus is not creamy enough, continue adding water until the desired consistency is reached.
- Blend for an additional 30 seconds to ensure everything is well combined and silky smooth.
- Transfer the hummus to a serving bowl, creating a swirl in the center with the back of a spoon.
- Drizzle olive oil over the top and sprinkle with paprika and fresh parsley for garnish.
- Serve with warm pita bread, crunchy vegetable sticks, or pita chips.
- Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 4-5 days. Stir before serving and add a splash of water or olive oil if needed.
Notes
- For variations, consider adding roasted red peppers, sun-dried tomatoes, or spicy harissa for a different flavor profile.
- Fresh lemon juice is recommended for the best flavor.
