Deep Fried Oreos: The Ultimate Guide to Making Them at Home

  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 36 deep-fried Oreos 1x

Description

Crispy, golden batter encases classic Oreos for a warm, gooey, and irresistible dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package (about 36) Oreo cookies
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk (whole milk recommended for richer flavor)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Vegetable oil, for frying (about 4-6 cups, depending on your pot)
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  3. Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, whisking constantly until just combined. A few lumps are okay.
  4. The batter should be thick enough to coat a spoon and leave a good layer behind. Add flour or milk, 1 tablespoon at a time, to adjust.
  5. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  6. Use a deep pot or deep fryer.
  7. Pour vegetable oil into the pot to a depth of about 2-3 inches.
  8. Heat the oil over medium heat to 350-375°F (175-190°C).
  9. Set up a wire rack lined with paper towels next to the pot. Have tongs or a slotted spoon ready.
  10. One at a time, dip an Oreo into the batter, making sure it’s completely coated.
  11. Gently lower the battered Oreo into the hot oil. Fry only 2-3 Oreos at a time.
  12. Fry the Oreos for about 2-3 minutes per side, or until they are golden brown and crispy.
  13. Carefully remove the Oreos from the oil and place them on the prepared wire rack to drain.
  14. Repeat the dipping and frying process with the remaining Oreos.
  15. Throughout the frying process, monitor the oil temperature and adjust the heat as needed to maintain a consistent temperature of 350-375°F (175-190°C).
  16. While the Oreos are still warm, dust them generously with powdered sugar.
  17. Deep-fried Oreos are best enjoyed immediately while they’re still warm and crispy.
  18. Try drizzling them with chocolate sauce, caramel sauce, or whipped cream. You can also sprinkle them with chopped nuts, sprinkles, or even a scoop of ice cream.
  19. These are a decadent treat, so enjoy them in moderation!

Notes

  • Don’t skip the resting time for the batter; it improves the texture.
  • Use fresh oil for the best flavor.
  • Maintain the correct oil temperature for even cooking.
  • Don’t overcrowd the pot.
  • Drain the Oreos well to remove excess oil.
  • Serve immediately for the best taste and texture.
  • Experiment with different Oreo flavors, batter additions (cocoa powder, cinnamon, liqueur), or fillings (peanut butter, Nutella, marshmallow fluff).
  • Safety Precautions: Never leave hot oil unattended. Use caution when adding food to hot oil. Keep a fire extinguisher nearby. Allow the oil to cool completely before disposing of it.
