  • Yield: 12-15 servings 1x

Description

This Easter Dirt Cake features a crunchy chocolate cookie crust and a creamy filling, topped with gummy worms and edible grass for a fun, festive treat. Perfect for spring celebrations, it’s a delightful dessert that appeals to both kids and adults!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package (15.25 oz) chocolate sandwich cookies (like Oreos)
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 package (8 oz) cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 package (3.4 oz) instant chocolate pudding mix
  • 1 container (8 oz) whipped topping (like Cool Whip), thawed
  • Gummy worms (for decoration)
  • Edible grass (optional, for decoration)
  • Small flower pots (optional, for serving)

Instructions

  1. Place the chocolate sandwich cookies in a food processor and pulse until finely crushed, resembling sand. Alternatively, crush them in a zip-top bag with a rolling pin.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine the crushed cookies with the softened butter, mixing until the mixture resembles wet sand.
  3. Press the cookie mixture firmly into the bottom of a 9×13 inch baking dish or your chosen flower pots, ensuring it is tightly packed.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with an electric mixer until smooth and creamy (about 1-2 minutes).
  5. Add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined and smooth.
  6. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk and instant chocolate pudding mix until thickened (about 2 minutes).
  7. Gently fold the pudding mixture into the cream cheese mixture, being careful not to overmix.
  8. Fold in the thawed whipped topping until well combined.
  9. Pour the cream cheese and pudding mixture over the cookie crust in the baking dish, spreading it evenly.
  10. If using flower pots, fill them with the cream cheese mixture, leaving space at the top for decorations.
  11. Sprinkle the remaining crushed cookies generously over the top to create the “dirt” layer.
  12. Decorate with gummy worms, letting some hang over the edges, and sprinkle edible grass around for a festive touch.
  13. Cover the baking dish with plastic wrap or aluminum foil. If using flower pots, cover them individually.
  14. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight, to allow the flavors to meld and the texture to set.
  15. Once chilled, serve the cake directly from the baking dish or flower pots. Enjoy your delightful Easter treat!

Notes

  • For a more intense chocolate flavor, consider using double-stuffed chocolate sandwich cookies.
  • You can customize the decorations based on the season or occasion by using different candies or toppings.
