Ingredients
Scale
- 1 package (15.25 oz) chocolate sandwich cookies (like Oreos)
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 package (8 oz) cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups milk
- 1 package (3.4 oz) instant chocolate pudding mix
- 1 container (8 oz) whipped topping (like Cool Whip), thawed
- Gummy worms (for decoration)
- Edible grass (optional, for decoration)
- Small flower pots (optional, for serving)
Instructions
- Place the chocolate sandwich cookies in a food processor and pulse until finely crushed, resembling sand. Alternatively, crush them in a zip-top bag with a rolling pin.
- In a medium bowl, combine the crushed cookies with the softened butter, mixing until the mixture resembles wet sand.
- Press the cookie mixture firmly into the bottom of a 9×13 inch baking dish or your chosen flower pots, ensuring it is tightly packed.
- In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with an electric mixer until smooth and creamy (about 1-2 minutes).
- Add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined and smooth.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk and instant chocolate pudding mix until thickened (about 2 minutes).
- Gently fold the pudding mixture into the cream cheese mixture, being careful not to overmix.
- Fold in the thawed whipped topping until well combined.
- Pour the cream cheese and pudding mixture over the cookie crust in the baking dish, spreading it evenly.
- If using flower pots, fill them with the cream cheese mixture, leaving space at the top for decorations.
- Sprinkle the remaining crushed cookies generously over the top to create the “dirt” layer.
- Decorate with gummy worms, letting some hang over the edges, and sprinkle edible grass around for a festive touch.
- Cover the baking dish with plastic wrap or aluminum foil. If using flower pots, cover them individually.
- Refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight, to allow the flavors to meld and the texture to set.
- Once chilled, serve the cake directly from the baking dish or flower pots. Enjoy your delightful Easter treat!
Notes
- For a more intense chocolate flavor, consider using double-stuffed chocolate sandwich cookies.
