Description
Cool off with these refreshing Frozen Cherry Margaritas! Made with frozen cherries, tequila, orange liqueur, and lime juice, they’re the perfect blend of sweet, tart, and boozy.
Ingredients
Scale
- 6 cups frozen pitted cherries
- 1 cup tequila (blanco or silver)
- 1/2 cup orange liqueur (such as Cointreau or Triple Sec)
- 1/4 cup lime juice, freshly squeezed
- 2 tablespoons agave nectar (or simple syrup, to taste)
- 1/4 cup water (if needed, for blending)
- Lime wedges, for garnish
- Coarse salt or sugar, for rimming the glasses (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare Glasses (Optional): If desired, rim glasses with salt or sugar. Spread salt/sugar on a plate. Moisten glass rims with a lime wedge. Dip rims in salt/sugar, rotating to coat. Freeze briefly.
- Blend Margarita: Combine frozen cherries, tequila, orange liqueur, lime juice, and agave nectar in a high-powered blender.
- Blend: Start on low, gradually increasing to high speed. Blend until smooth and slushy. If too thick, add water, 1 tablespoon at a time, until desired consistency is reached.
- Taste and Adjust: Taste and adjust sweetness/tartness as needed. Add more agave nectar for sweetness or lime juice for tartness. Blend again if needed.
- Serve: Pour into prepared glasses. Garnish with lime wedges. Serve immediately.
Notes
- Use a high-powered blender for best results.
- Adjust sweetness to your preference.
- For a spicier margarita, add a few slices of jalapeño pepper to the blender.
- Experiment with different types of tequila or add other frozen fruits.
- To make a non-alcoholic version, substitute the tequila with sparkling water or club soda. You can also use a non-alcoholic orange liqueur substitute.
- If you find that your margaritas are separating after blending, try adding a small amount of xanthan gum to the blender.
- This recipe can easily be doubled or tripled to make a large batch for a party. Just be sure to use a large enough blender!
- If you have any leftover margaritas, you can freeze them in an airtight container for later. When you’re ready to drink them, simply thaw them slightly and blend them again until smooth.
