Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 slices of thick-cut bread (brioche or sourdough recommended)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup honey (preferably local)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
  • Pinch of salt
  • Fresh fruit for topping (sliced bananas, strawberries, or blueberries)
  • Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a medium-sized mixing bowl, add the softened butter.
  2. Pour in the honey, using a lightly greased measuring cup for easy pouring.
  3. Add the ground cinnamon and a pinch of salt.
  4. Using a hand mixer or whisk, beat the mixture until light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes).
  5. Taste and adjust sweetness or cinnamon as desired.
  6. Transfer the honey butter to a small serving bowl and set aside. Refrigerate if making ahead, but let it soften before use.
  7. Choose your favorite thick-cut bread and slice it into 1-inch thick pieces if using a loaf.
  8. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) for baking, or heat a skillet over medium heat.
  9. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper if baking.
  10. Spread a generous amount of honey butter on one side of each slice of bread.
  11. Place the buttered side up on the prepared baking sheet.
  12. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
  13. Remove from the oven and let cool for a minute.
  14. Place the buttered side down on the hot skillet, cooking 2-3 slices at a time.
  15. Cook for 2-3 minutes until golden brown, pressing down with a spatula for even cooking.
  16. Flip and cook for another 2-3 minutes, adding more honey butter on top if desired.
  17. Take the cooked toast and top with fresh fruit.
  18. Dust with powdered sugar if desired.
  19. Serve immediately and enjoy!
