Description
Flaky salmon fillets glazed with a sweet and tangy honey mustard sauce, perfect for a quick and healthy weeknight meal.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 (6-ounce) salmon fillets, skin on or off
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1/4 cup Dijon mustard
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice, freshly squeezed
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/4 teaspoon salt, or to taste
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper, or to taste
- Optional garnish: fresh parsley, chopped lemon wedges
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, whisk together Dijon mustard, honey, and lemon juice until well combined.
- Add garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Whisk until smooth.
- Taste and adjust seasonings as needed.
- Pat salmon fillets dry with paper towels.
- Lightly season both sides with salt and pepper.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering.
- Carefully place salmon fillets in the hot skillet, skin-side down if using skin-on fillets. Sear for 4-5 minutes, or until the skin is crispy and golden brown (if using skin-on) and the bottom of the fillet is nicely browned.
- Flip the salmon fillets and cook for another 3-4 minutes, or until the salmon is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork. The internal temperature should reach 145°F (63°C).
- During the last minute of cooking, brush the honey mustard glaze generously over the top of each salmon fillet. Let the glaze caramelize slightly in the pan.
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil.
- Place salmon fillets on the prepared baking sheet, leaving some space between each fillet.
- Generously brush the honey mustard glaze over the top of each salmon fillet.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the salmon is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork. The internal temperature should reach 145°F (63°C).
- Broil for Extra Color (Optional): If you want a more caramelized glaze, you can broil the salmon for the last 1-2 minutes of cooking. Keep a close eye on it to prevent burning.
Notes
- Don’t overcook the salmon. Cook just until it flakes easily with a fork.
- Use fresh salmon for the best flavor.
- Adjust the glaze to your liking.
- Let the salmon rest for a few minutes before serving.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- Serve with roasted vegetables, rice, quinoa, salad, or mashed potatoes.
- Garnish with fresh parsley and lemon wedges.
- Maple syrup or brown sugar can be substituted for honey.
- Experiment with different types of mustard.
- Add a pinch of red pepper flakes for heat.
- Use different herbs like dill, chives, or thyme.
