Ingredients
Scale
- 1 ½ cups whole milk, chilled
- ½ cup heavy cream, chilled
- ¼ cup bourbon (or rum, or brandy your choice!), chilled
- 2 tablespoons simple syrup (see notes for recipe)
- ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of freshly grated nutmeg, plus more for garnish
- Ice cubes
Instructions
- Chill Everything: Ensure your milk, cream, spirit, and glasses are thoroughly chilled. Place glasses in the freezer for 15 minutes before mixing.
- Combine Liquids: In a pitcher or large measuring cup, gently combine the chilled milk, heavy cream, spirit, simple syrup, and vanilla extract. Stir until incorporated, avoiding over-mixing.
- Add Nutmeg: Add a pinch of freshly grated nutmeg.
- Taste and Adjust: Taste and customize. Add more simple syrup for sweetness or more spirit for a stronger kick, stirring well after each addition.
- Prepare Glasses: Remove chilled glasses from the freezer.
- Fill with Ice: Fill each glass with ice cubes.
- Pour and Garnish: Gently pour the Milk Punch into the ice-filled glasses, leaving room at the top. Garnish with a generous grating of fresh nutmeg.
- Serve Immediately: Serve immediately while cold.
Notes
- Simple Syrup Recipe: Combine equal parts granulated sugar and water in a saucepan. Heat over medium heat, stirring until sugar dissolves. Simmer for 1 minute. Cool completely and store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
- Spirit Options: Bourbon is traditional, but rum, brandy, or whiskey can be substituted.
- Spice It Up: Experiment with cinnamon, cardamom, or cloves.
- Citrus Zest: Add orange or lemon zest for a refreshing note.
- Coffee Milk Punch: Add a shot of espresso for a morning pick-me-up.
- Chocolate Milk Punch: Add chocolate syrup or cocoa powder.
- Vegan Milk Punch: Use plant-based milk and cream alternatives.
- Make it Ahead: Prepare the mixture ahead of time and store it in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. Just be sure to stir it well before serving. Don’t add the ice until you’re ready to serve.
- Sweetness Level: Adjust the amount of simple syrup to your personal preference.
- Garnish Ideas: While nutmeg is the classic garnish, you can also get creative with other garnishes. Try adding a cinnamon stick, a star anise, or a sprig of fresh mint.
