  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 32-40 mini rolls 1x

Description

Easy Nutella Cinnamon Toast Rolls made with refrigerated cinnamon roll dough, filled with Nutella and cinnamon-sugar, and baked to golden perfection. A delicious and simple treat!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package (13.8 ounces) refrigerated cinnamon roll dough (like Pillsbury Grands!)
  • 1/2 cup Nutella (or your favorite hazelnut spread)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup chopped hazelnuts (optional, for topping)
  • Icing from the cinnamon roll package (or homemade cream cheese frosting, recipe follows)
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 12 tablespoons milk (or heavy cream), to adjust consistency

Instructions

  1. Preheat: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. Cinnamon-Sugar: Combine granulated sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl.
  3. Melt Butter: Melt unsalted butter.
  4. Separate Rolls: Open cinnamon roll dough and separate each roll.
  5. Flatten: Flatten each roll into a 4-5 inch oval or rectangle.
  6. Spread Nutella: Spread each roll with a tablespoon of Nutella, leaving a small border.
  7. Sprinkle: Sprinkle with cinnamon-sugar mixture.
  8. Roll Up: Roll up each roll tightly and pinch the seam to seal.
  9. Slice: Slice each roll into 4-5 smaller rolls.
  10. Arrange: Arrange mini rolls cut-side up in the prepared pan.
  11. Brush: Brush the tops of the rolls with melted butter.
  12. Hazelnuts (Optional): Sprinkle with chopped hazelnuts.
  13. Bake: Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through. Check for doneness with a toothpick.
  14. Cool: Let cool in the pan for 10-15 minutes.
  15. Frosting (Included Icing): Snip the corner of the icing packet.
  16. Frosting (Homemade): Beat softened cream cheese and butter until smooth. Gradually add powdered sugar, then vanilla extract. Add milk or cream to adjust consistency.
  17. Frost: Frost the warm rolls with icing or homemade frosting.
  18. Serve: Serve warm.

Notes

  • Use Different Spreads: Instead of Nutella, you can use other hazelnut spreads, peanut butter, almond butter, or even cookie butter.
  • Add Chocolate Chips: Sprinkle chocolate chips over the Nutella before rolling up the rolls for an extra chocolatey treat.
  • Make it Vegan: Use vegan cinnamon roll dough, vegan butter, and a vegan cream cheese frosting alternative.
  • Overnight Option: Assemble the rolls in the baking pan, cover tightly with plastic wrap, and refrigerate overnight. In the morning, let them sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes before baking.
  • Spice it Up: Add a pinch of nutmeg or cardamom to the cinnamon-sugar mixture for a warmer, more complex flavor.
  • Caramel Drizzle: Drizzle caramel sauce over the frosted rolls for an extra decadent treat.
  • Make it Gluten-Free: Use gluten-free cinnamon roll dough. Note that the texture might be slightly different.
  • Individual Rolls: Instead of baking them in a pan, you can bake the sliced rolls individually on a baking sheet for a crispier texture. Reduce the baking time slightly.
  • Don’t Overbake: Overbaking will result in dry rolls. Keep a close eye on them and remove them from the oven as soon as they are golden brown.
  • Storage: Store leftover rolls in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days, or in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Reheat in the microwave or oven before serving.
