- 1 cup strong brewed coffee (Starbucks Pike Place or similar), hot
- 1 cup milk (dairy or non-dairy), steamed or heated
- 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar (or sweetener of choice, adjust to taste)
- 1/4 teaspoon peppermint extract (start with less, you can always add more!)
- 1/4 cup heavy cream (for whipped cream, optional)
- 1 tablespoon powdered sugar (for whipped cream, optional)
- Chocolate shavings or chocolate syrup (for garnish, optional)
- Crushed peppermint candies (for garnish, optional)
Instructions
- Brew your coffee: Brew a cup of strong coffee using your preferred method.
- Prepare the chocolate peppermint base: In a mug, whisk together the cocoa powder and sugar.
- Add the hot coffee: Pour the hot coffee into the mug with the cocoa and sugar mixture. Stir well until dissolved.
- Incorporate the peppermint extract: Add 1/4 teaspoon of peppermint extract and taste. Add more if desired.
- Heat and froth the milk: Heat your milk using a saucepan, microwave, or milk frother. Froth if possible.
- Combine the coffee and milk: Gently pour the steamed or heated milk into the mug with the chocolate peppermint coffee.
- Stir gently: Stir the coffee and milk together gently to combine.
- Make the Whipped Cream (Optional): Chill your equipment, combine heavy cream and powdered sugar, and whip until stiff peaks form.
- Top with whipped cream: Spoon or pipe the whipped cream onto the top of your peppermint mocha.
- Add chocolate shavings or syrup: Sprinkle chocolate shavings over the whipped cream, or drizzle with chocolate syrup.
- Sprinkle with crushed peppermint candies: For an extra festive touch, sprinkle crushed peppermint candies over the whipped cream and chocolate.
- Serve immediately: Enjoy your homemade Peppermint Mocha while it’s hot and the whipped cream is still fluffy!
