Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups chocolate chips (semi-sweet or milk chocolate)
- 1 cup chopped nuts (optional, walnuts or pecans work well)
- 1 cup holiday-themed sprinkles (for decoration)
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar using an electric mixer on medium speed for about 2-3 minutes until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract until the batter is smooth and creamy.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined. Avoid overmixing.
- Fold in the chocolate chips and chopped nuts (if using) with a spatula.
- Cover the mixing bowl with plastic wrap or a clean kitchen towel and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes (up to overnight for better flavor).
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Once chilled, scoop rounded balls of dough onto a prepared baking sheet, leaving about 2 inches of space between each cookie. Optionally, sprinkle extra chocolate chips and holiday-themed sprinkles on top.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. The centers may look slightly underbaked.
- Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- For sandwich cookies, spread frosting or filling on the bottom of one cookie and top with another. For decoration, drizzle melted white chocolate and sprinkle with holiday-themed sprinkles.
