Fragrant Rose Black Tea Latte with tea concentrate, rose syrup, and frothed milk. Enjoy hot or iced!
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups water, filtered
- 2 tablespoons loose leaf rose black tea (or 4 tea bags)
- 1 cup milk (dairy or non-dairy, your preference!), plus more for frothing
- 2 tablespoons rose syrup (adjust to taste)
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
- Dried rose petals, for garnish (optional)
- Sweetener of choice (honey, agave, sugar) to taste, if needed
- Ice cubes (if making iced latte)
Instructions
- Heat the Water: Pour the 2 cups of filtered water into a saucepan and bring it to a near boil (200-212°F or 93-100°C).
- Steep the Tea: Remove from heat, add the rose black tea, and stir.
- Cover and Steep: Cover and steep for 5-7 minutes.
- Strain the Tea: Strain through a fine-mesh sieve into a heat-resistant container.
- Cool Slightly: Let the tea concentrate cool slightly.
- Combine Water and Sugar: In a small saucepan, combine 1/2 cup of water and 1/2 cup of granulated sugar.
- Heat and Dissolve: Place the saucepan over medium heat and stir constantly until the sugar is completely dissolved. The mixture should be clear and free of any sugar granules.
- Add Rose Water: Once the sugar is dissolved, remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in 1-2 tablespoons of rose water, depending on your preference. Start with 1 tablespoon and taste, adding more if desired. Be careful not to add too much, as rose water can be quite potent.
- Simmer (Optional): For a thicker syrup, you can simmer the mixture over low heat for a few minutes, until it reaches your desired consistency. Keep a close eye on it, as it can thicken quickly.
- Cool and Store: Let the rose syrup cool completely before using. Store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
- Choose Your Milk: Select your preferred milk (dairy or non-dairy).
- Heat the Milk: Heat 1 cup of milk in a saucepan or microwave until steaming (140-160°F or 60-71°C).
- Froth the Milk: Use a milk frother, French press, handheld frother, or whisk to create a thick, foamy froth.
- Prepare Your Mug: Warm your mug with hot water, then empty it.
- Add Rose Syrup: Pour 2 tablespoons of rose syrup into the mug.
- Add Tea Concentrate: Pour about 1/2 cup of the rose black tea concentrate into the mug.
- Add Vanilla Extract (Optional): If using, add 1/4 teaspoon of vanilla extract to the mug and stir gently to combine.
- Pour in the Milk: Gently pour the heated milk into the mug, leaving about an inch of space at the top for the froth.
- Spoon on the Froth: Spoon the frothed milk onto the top of the latte, creating a thick, creamy layer.
- Garnish (Optional): Sprinkle a few dried rose petals on top of the froth for a beautiful and fragrant garnish. You can also add a dusting of cinnamon or cocoa powder for extra flavor.
- Sweeten to Taste (If Needed): Taste the latte and add sweetener of your choice (honey, agave, sugar) if needed. Stir gently to combine.
- Enjoy!
- Brew and Cool the Tea Concentrate: Follow the steps for brewing the rose black tea concentrate as described above. Allow the concentrate to cool completely. You can even chill it in the refrigerator for faster cooling.
- Prepare Your Glass: Fill a tall glass with ice cubes.
- Add Rose Syrup: Pour 2 tablespoons of rose syrup into the glass. Adjust to taste.
- Add Tea Concentrate: Pour about 1/2 cup of the chilled rose black tea concentrate into the glass, over the ice.
- Add Milk: Pour in about 1 cup of cold milk, leaving some space at the top.
- Stir Gently: Stir the mixture gently to combine the ingredients.
- Top with Cold Foam (Optional): For an extra touch of indulgence, you can top the iced latte with cold foam. To make cold foam, simply froth cold milk using a milk fro
