Indulge in these decadent Caramel Chocolate Chip Bars, featuring a rich buttery base, gooey caramel swirls, and a sprinkle of sea salt. Perfect for satisfying your sweet tooth!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt, for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes).
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Avoid overmixing.
  6. Fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips.
  7. Line a 9×13 inch baking dish with parchment paper, leaving overhang for easy removal.
  8. Pour half of the batter into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly.
  9. Drizzle about 3/4 cup of caramel sauce over the first layer of batter.
  10. Gently swirl the caramel into the batter with a knife or toothpick.
  11. Spoon the remaining batter over the caramel layer, allowing some caramel to peek through.
  12. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until edges are golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  13. Let cool in the pan for about 10 minutes.
  14. Use the parchment paper to lift the bars out of the baking dish and onto a cutting board. Allow to cool completely before cutting into squares.
  15. Drizzle the remaining caramel sauce over the top of the bars.
  16. Sprinkle sea salt over the top for a perfect flavor balance.

Notes

  • For a homemade caramel sauce, consider using a simple recipe with sugar, butter, and cream.
  • These bars can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
