Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
- 1 teaspoon sea salt, for sprinkling
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes).
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract until smooth.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Avoid overmixing.
- Fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips.
- Line a 9×13 inch baking dish with parchment paper, leaving overhang for easy removal.
- Pour half of the batter into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly.
- Drizzle about 3/4 cup of caramel sauce over the first layer of batter.
- Gently swirl the caramel into the batter with a knife or toothpick.
- Spoon the remaining batter over the caramel layer, allowing some caramel to peek through.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until edges are golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
- Let cool in the pan for about 10 minutes.
- Use the parchment paper to lift the bars out of the baking dish and onto a cutting board. Allow to cool completely before cutting into squares.
- Drizzle the remaining caramel sauce over the top of the bars.
- Sprinkle sea salt over the top for a perfect flavor balance.
Notes
